Savvy Shopping, Smart Cooking

Eating Better at a Price You Can Afford … What an appealing idea! I am partnering with Wendy Van Wagner of In the Kitchen fame to provide this practical and fun food shopping tour and cooking class– all in one spectacular morning! We’ll meet and shop at Briarpatch from 9 – 10, during which time we’ll review labels and what ingredients to look for, explore grains and legumes and other interesting bulk items, and much more! We’ll then pop over to In the Kitchen for a cooking class (from 10:30 – noon) that will utilize some of the Basic Buy items being offered as an affordable purchase at Briarpatch. You’ll come away with a New Pantry shopping list, information to shop smart and sensibly, recipes, and a happy stomach–as the meal is included in the price! What a deal! Space is limited to 8, pre-registration and payment is required. Register here: http://wendyvanwagner.com. See you there!

A Seasonal Spring Cooking Class

I’ll be co-teaching another of the seasonal cooking class series, with Wendy Van Wagner of In the Kitchen. Join us to have some fun around the chopping block table–to cook, eat, and learn about real food. You’ll go home with a big smile, satiated belly, and all kinds of delicious and easy-to-make recipes. See you there!

Heart – Mind Connection: A Mindfulness Symposium

Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Center is hosting a free community heart-health symposium, the theme of which is Mindfulness. I have the honor and pleasure of joining Dr. Marty Cottler as a speaker at this event to share the benefits and how-to’s of integrating mindfulness into daily practice.

Dr. Cottler will speak about Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and I will discuss Mindful Meals — two relevant and healthful topics! Local health related businesses will have demo and display booths there as well.

Seating will be limited, please RSVP to 274-6124 to reserve your spot.

A Cooking Class for Lovers!

Join me and Wendy Van Wagner at In the Kitchen for an evening of culinary decadence. We’ll meet around the chop block on Thursday, February 3 at 6 PM, to share the labors of love, as we create healthful dishes that will tantalize your romantic taste-buds!

This class is $35 per person and includes a full meal, recipes for each dish, lots of lively discussion about pleasurable ways to keep active and healthy, and a whole lot o’ fun.

Pre-registration is requested at Wendy’s In the Kitchen website or by calling 478-0669.

February is National Heart Month…Heartmatters will be there!

January 27th: Thursday, I’ll be on KNCO 830 AM, Talk of the Town to discuss National Heart Month, how to embody a heart-healthy lifestyle, and what resources are available for the journey to optimal health and well-being.

February 3: HeartMatters and In the Kitchen team up for this HeartLovers cooking class. We’ll be sharing the preparation of several dishes that invite romance, while discussing opportunities to integrate daily behaviors that are health-promoting.

February 9: Eat Well In Your Busy Life cooking demo and tasting at Nevada Union High School for the district teachers and staff. It is an honor to support those who give of themselves to help us to grow our children. I’m looking forward to sharing ideas and opportunities with them so they can become and stay well-nourished throughout their busy days!

February 15: I am so pleased to have been asked to present a workshop at the Cardiac Symposium and health fair, sponsored by Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. I’ll be speaking on a topic about which I am very passionate–Mindful Eating! How perfect is that?

February, all month: Your HeartMatters Journey continues. The positive feedback for this series and the fun I am having making the videos and writing the blog posts is keeping me highly and pleasantly motivated. Thank you for traveling with me on this journey!

And who knows what else I will come up with for the month…stay tuned!
